TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan committed to working with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development on Friday and help Ukraine improve its workers’ skills.
Taiwan's representative to the UK Vincent Yao (姚金祥) signed an agreement in London offering Taiwan’s support for the bank-led human capital development plan, per CNA. Yao said Taiwan firmly supports Ukraine and hopes to continue working with partners like the development bank to support the country’s reconstruction.
Yao said Taiwan looks forward to sharing its workforce development expertise. He added that Taiwan is willing to continue providing humanitarian assistance and hopes to strengthen cooperation with Ukraine.
The bank’s development plan aims to strengthen the Ukraine labor market after three years of war with Russia. It aims to address the effects of mass displacement of citizens, labor and skills shortages, recruitment issues, and changes in workplace environments.
Yao said the bank’s plan includes worker education, workplace childcare facilities, and improved workplace environments. He said these aim to speed up Ukraine’s economic recovery post-war.
Taiwan has worked with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development since 1991 on over 400 development projects, according to CNA. These have included economic, infrastructure, governance, and other projects.
