TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — TPP Legislator Wu Chun-cheng (吳春城) resigned on Tuesday, stating the passage of the Strong Generation Policy and Industry Development Promotion Act on Jan. 7 marked the completion of his mission in the Legislative Yuan.
After completing his questioning session for Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰), Wu announced his resignation, expressing gratitude toward Cho, Minister without Portfolio Chen Shih-chung (陳時中), and his fellow legislators, per CNA. He said he had considered resigning once the law passed but felt compelled to remain in the legislature to defend himself and the law from what he described as attacks.
Wu informed TPP Secretary General Chou Yu-hsiu (周榆修) and TPP Chair Huang Kuo-chang (黃國昌) about his resignation on Feb. 14. His official resignation was submitted this morning.
The TPP issued a statement thanking Wu for addressing the challenges of Taiwan’s incoming super-aged society. They also expressed regret over what they called the DPP’s attempt to slander the law and deepen generational divides, per CNA.
According to the TPP’s list of legislator-at-large seat candidates, Soochow University politics professor Liu Shu-pin (劉書彬) is most likely to take Wu's vacant seat.
Wu faced criticism from the DPP regarding an alleged conflict of interest during the 2025 budget audit. The Control Yuan Committee on Anti-Corruption and the Taipei District Prosecutors' Office have launched investigations into his conduct.
