TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A five-member European Parliament delegation led by Ivars Ijabs, vice chair of Latvia’s Renew Europe Group, is in Taiwan for talks on trade and cooperation.
The group arrived on Feb. 24 for a five-day visit. This is the first European parliamentary delegation to come in 2025, Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
During their stay, the delegation will meet with Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴) and attend a banquet hosted by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Wu Chih-chung (吳志中). The parliamentarians will also engage with legislators, government ministries, civil society organizations, and think tanks.
MOFA pointed out that in January, the European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee approved the annual Common Foreign and Security Policy and Common Security and Defense Policy reports, which included several pro-Taiwan provisions.
The reports supported peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and condemned China’s misinterpretation of UN Resolution 2758. They also call on the EU to help bolster Taiwan’s security resilience.
MOFA thanked the European Parliament’s continued concrete support for Taiwan and pledged to deepen ties with like-minded European partners to enhance democratic resilience.
