TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) thanked the Japanese government for its commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait during a meeting with Democratic Party for the People leader Tamaki Yuichiro on Monday.
Lai pointed out that Taiwan is threatened by China’s “red supply chain.” He hoped Taiwan and Japan could strengthen cooperation in hydrogen energy and drone technology to establish a non-red supply chain—creating a win-win economic partnership while safeguarding peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific and globally, according to the Presidential Office.
Countries are increasingly concerned about economic security and supply chain resilience, Lai said. As authoritarianism continues to grow, democracies should stand united, he said.
Thanks to Lai's efforts, Tamaki said Taiwan-Japan relations are now closer than ever. He expressed confidence that Taiwan-Japan relations would continue to deepen.
The party leader praised the US-Japan summit earlier this month, which led to a joint statement. Both sides opposed any unilateral attempts to change the Taiwan Strait status quo through force or coercion, Tamaki said.
Tamaki arrived in Taiwan on Sunday for high-level security talks. His visit underscores the importance of peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and aims to strengthen Taiwan-Japan parliamentary relations.
