TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Kaohsiung's agriculture bureau said Monday that the pearl guava from Yanchao District is on sale at Carrefour.
Carrefour expressed support for Taiwanese agriculture by offering Yanchao’s certified-quality pearl guavas. The retailer also highlighted its efforts to optimize logistics to ensure the freshest produce for customers, per CNA.
Guavas can be grown year-round in Taiwan. Kaohsiung’s guava orchards cover approximately 2,750 hectares, with Yanchao leading Taiwan in the planting area and yield.
Yanchao's ideal natural conditions, including abundant sunshine, a warm climate, and mineral-rich soil, make it perfect for growing guavas. The bureau said its pearl guavas are prized for their delicate texture, sweet, crisp flavor, and high nutritional value.
Kaohsiung agriculture gureau acting director Liang Ming-hsien (梁銘憲) added that local farmers employ meticulous cultivation practices to guarantee the high quality and reasonable prices of their guavas.
Taiwan's guavas will be exported to Australia as early as September, and four lychee varieties will be cultivated and sold, the Ministry of Agriculture announced Thursday following a Taiwan-Australia agricultural cooperation meeting in Brisbane.
The ministry added that guava exports from November to February reached 725.6 tonnes. The top three destinations were Canada with 596.75 tonnes, Hong Kong with 65.4 metric tonnes, and the US with 61.61 tonnes.
