TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs Monday pledged to continue to provide humanitarian aid to Ukraine as the Russia-Ukraine war rages on.
On the third anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine which took place on Feb. 24, 2022, MOFA said it continues to monitor the developments of the Russia-Ukraine war and the positions of the US, Russia, and Europe on peace talks, per CNA. The ministry said it has instructed its overseas missions to gather intelligence on relevant political developments and to respond to changes in the international geopolitical landscape.
Amid recent shifts in US President Donald Trump’s policy on aid to Ukraine, MOFA said that Taiwan will keep working with like-minded countries to respond to harassment and threats from authoritarian regimes. The ministry stressed Taiwan would continue to cooperate with the international community in providing humanitarian assistance to Ukraine.
In addition, MOFA emphasized that, as a democratic country and a responsible member of the region, Taiwan is firmly committed to defending itself. It added that the country continues to strengthen its defense capabilities and safeguard national sovereignty and the freedom of its people.
