TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Aerospace Industrial Development Corporation introduced its latest counter-drone system at Xponential Europe in Dusseldorf, Germany this week.
AIDC Vice President Chuang Hsiu-mei (莊秀美) said the system integrates five tactical functions, including radar and cameras, per CNA. While production volume may not be as high as regular drones, the system still performs a key role for government agencies, airports, and oil facilities.
According to Chuang, the counter-drone system detects suspicious drone signals. If necessary, it can deploy a jammer to interfere and disable unauthorized drones causing them to lose direction.
The system includes active and passive radar. “Passive radar means that we don’t actively scan or search, but once a drone enters the detection zone, the system can sense it,” Chuang explained.
“The jammer then disrupts the drone’s positioning system, preventing it from locating its target,” she added. Similar to other systems that use high-energy microwaves or lasers, this is known as a “soft kill.”
Once verified by the National Communications Commission, the system will be ready for mass production. Chuang said she hopes to launch it with strategic partners in June.
