TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – New Taipei District Court approved the detention of three people accused of helping actor Darren Wang (王大陸) forge documents to evade military service, reports said Wednesday.
Wang reportedly paid the three men, surnamed Lee (李), Chang (張), and Lin (林), NT$1 million (US$30,500) for their services. He was released on bail of NT$150,000 after questioning by investigators Tuesday.
New Taipei District Court reportedly agreed with prosecutors that the three intermediaries could still collude with accomplices and witnesses and destroy evidence, per CNA. There were also fears that Lee might flee the country, according to the report.
In addition to Wang, investigators questioned nine others looking for forged medical records to evade military service. They were also bailed Tuesday, apart from one suspect who was ordered into house arrest because he was unable to pay.
Wang had reached the age of 33, the maximum age to postpone conscription. As a result, the Ministry of Interior had listed March 13 as the date for the actor to start his military service, CNA reported.
