TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s upgraded M60A3 Patton tank could debut at the Taipei Aerospace and Defense Technology Exhibition in September, the Ministry of National Defense said at a press conference Tuesday.
Deputy Minister of National Defense Huang You-min (黃佑民) said the military is considering showcasing a modernized Patton tank, developed by the Army in collaboration with the National Chung Shan Institute of Science and Technology and the Armaments Bureau, Liberty Times reported.
Though the primary weapon remains a 105mm gun, the tank has an improved fire control system, targeting optics, and observation systems. The engine is also replaced with a more powerful one through foreign procurement.
A new UAV designed by NCSIST is also being considered for display. The drone features stacked-generation chips, which allows for enhanced UAV performance.
Huang said by sharing domestically developed weapon systems, the public can see Taiwan’s defense technology firsthand. This helps strengthen public recognition and support for the nation’s commitment to defense and national security.
