TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A traffic accident involving two tour buses and a car occurred at the intersection of Chiayi County Roads 166 and 159 at 7:58 a.m. on Sunday.
The two tour buses were transporting pilgrims to Beigang Chaotian Temple when the lead bus rear-ended a car, causing the trailing bus to crash into the first bus, per CNA.
A total of 24 passengers were injured and transported to hospitals for treatment. The Chiayi County Fire Department dispatched ambulances and paramedics to the scene, transferring the injured to Chiayi Christian Hospital, Chiayi Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, and Dalin Tzu Chi Hospital.

Witnesses said the collision happened at a red light. The most seriously injured were the driver of the second tour bus and a tour leader, both of whom were trapped in the vehicle and sustained leg injuries.
A preliminary police investigation found that both bus drivers may have failed to maintain a safe following distance, leading to the crash. Alcohol tests showed that none of the drivers were intoxicated.
