TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Taiwanese director Ang Lee's (李安) Lifetime Achievement Award will be celebrated this summer through the Tony and Olivier Award-winning "Life of Pi" stage production in Taipei.
Lee, a two-time Oscar winner, received the Directors Guild of America's (DGA) most prestigious honor: the Lifetime Achievement Award. The ceremony took place on Feb. 8, making Lee the 37th recipient in the award's 88-year history.
This accolade not only recognizes Lee's extraordinary contributions to cinema but also highlights his profound impact on the global film landscape.
Among Lee's acclaimed works, "Life of Pi" stands out as a cinematic triumph. Adapted from Yann Martel's Booker Prize-winning novel, this 2012 film mesmerized international audiences. Lee described the source material as "a perfect fusion of humanity, faith, and adventure," which his film captured beautifully.
According to a National Theater & Concert Hall's (NTCH) press release, the stage adaptation of "Life of Pi" will make its highly anticipated Asian premiere in Taipei.
Direct from its acclaimed Broadway run, this production has conquered the American Tony Awards and the British Olivier Awards, winning eight honors for its innovative puppetry, stunning stagecraft, and theatrical brilliance.
NTCH is thrilled to present this world-class spectacle in Taipei, a fitting tribute to Lee's Lifetime Achievement Award and a long-awaited treat for Taiwanese audiences. 13 performances will run for two weeks, from July 17 to 27.
"Life of Pi" will be performed in English with Chinese subtitles. NTCH members enjoy an exclusive pre-sale starting April 1, with general sales beginning April 8.
The production will also tour the National Taichung Theater for five performances from July 31 to Aug. 3.
