TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – The Aviation Police Bureau nabbed a traveler suspected of having taken cash from a wallet just before boarding a flight to the US, reports said Wednesday.
The passenger surnamed Chen (陳), 48, found a wallet at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport Saturday evening and handed it over to a security guard, per UDN. However, when the rightful owner showed up to claim the wallet, he reported that NT$33,800 (US$1,029) in cash was missing.
By reviewing surveillance camera footage, police saw that Chen had emptied the wallet and taken the cash, leaving just two foreign banknotes. They arrested him at a gate just before he boarded his flight to the US.
The officers found the missing cash on him, forcing him to cancel his flight. The Aviation Police Bureau called on travelers to bring in found objects without removing the contents to avoid facing prosecution.
