TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s “Teen Diplomatic Envoys” delegation is wrapping up its North America trip after being on the road since Feb. 3.
The group visited Boston and Washington, D.C. on their last two stops. In Boston, they visited the Boston Globe headquarters, Harvard University, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, CNA reported.
During their time in Washington, D.C., the delegation visited the Department of State, the Capitol, the Library of Congress, and George Washington University.
One of the delegation members, Cheng Yun-rui (鄭允睿) said she was unsure whether she should study abroad before embarking on the trip. However, after visiting multiple US universities and engaging with Taiwanese studying in the US, she has become more interested in the idea.
Another group member, Chen Wei-hsi (陳瑋希) said she was already involved in international exchanges at school. "If I truly want to engage in international affairs, I should not just introduce foreign guests to the school. Instead, I should step out and try it myself," she said.
The group consists of 25 students and teachers from five schools. Over the past week, they also traveled to Vancouver, Seattle, San Francisco, and New York. They depart the US on Thursday.
The Teen Diplomatic Envoys program was launched in 2002 and aims to cultivate internationally-minded young talent, raise youth interest in diplomatic affairs, and promote interactions between Taiwan and the global community.
