TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – The Tourism Administration will offer vouchers and information about discounts to transit passengers until Feb. 23 to encourage visits to the Lantern Festival in Taoyuan, reports said Saturday.
The vouchers will be valid on the Airport Mass Rapid Transit system at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, while discounts will be on offer at more than 20 shops and businesses near MRT stations, per CNA. The festival starts Wednesday.
A website for free tours is available for travelers to register, on the condition their layover lasts between seven and 24 hours, and they have the necessary travel documents to enter Taiwan. Three other separate programs take transit passengers to experience the history and culture of Taipei, New Taipei, and Taoyuan.
The Tourism Administration sees the Lantern Festival as the beginning of a new campaign to draw more transit passengers to Taiwan. The World Expo in Osaka, Japan, from April to October, will be another opportunity to persuade international travelers to stop by in Taiwan.
