TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A Taiwanese fugitive wanted for multiple criminal offenses has been arrested in Los Angeles following a joint operation between US and Taiwanese law enforcement agencies.
The suspect surnamed Tsai (蔡) was wanted for the sexual assault of a minor and a drunk driving incident that resulted in two fatalities, Taiwanese police said. He is expected to be deported in the coming weeks to face legal proceedings, per CNA.
Tsai's arrest was led by the DEA’s Los Angeles Field Division, with intelligence support from Taiwanese authorities. Taiwan’s National Police Agency has a liaison officer stationed on the US West Coast to coordinate with American law enforcement in locating and apprehending Taiwanese fugitives overseas.
Yang Li-jing (楊力靜), Taiwan’s NPA liaison officer in the US, stated that she has maintained close cooperation with US law enforcement throughout her tenure.
