TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Kaohsiung City Government said on Thursday the Sunshine Island Vibe Fest is set to be held at Kaohsiung Central Park on Feb. 22-23.
The city's Department of Administrative and International Affairs said that Taiwanese singers Joanna Wang (王若琳) and Abao (阿爆), Filipino singer Roxanne Barcelo, Thai artist James Alyn, and the American jazz band Andy Jaffe Septet will perform at the event, CNA reported.
In addition to the music performances, the event will also feature a marketplace with goods from around the world, cultural activities, and sports experiences. One of the highlights will be sepak takraw, a popular Southeast Asian sport, which attendees can try for free with prior registration.
Mayor Chen Chi-mai (陳其邁) said the city is an industrial hub, with many immigrant residents and foreign workers, according to the city government’s press release. He invited Taiwanese and newcomers to attend the event.
The event is co-organized by the Kaohsiung City Government, the Manila Economic and Cultural Office, the American Institute in Taiwan, the Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association, and the Thailand Trade and Economic Office.
MECO Kaohsiung Extension Office Director Ma. Karina Perida-Trayvilla (崔瑞霞) said the office will showcase Filipino culture and promote tourism to the Philippines during the event. AIT Kaohsiung Branch Office Director Neil Gibson (張子霖) expressed hope the event will strengthen US-Taiwan relations.
