TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Kaohsiung opened its Hong Kong Lunar New Year Fair at Kaohsiung Central Park on Thursday, showcasing Cantonese delicacies and musical performances.
Now in its third year, the event’s highlight is the Hong Kong street food market. Vendors served up curry fish balls, freshly grilled char siu, and egg tarts to long lines, per CNA.
Kaohsiung Department of Administrative and Internal Affairs Director-General Chang Yen-ching (張硯卿) presented red envelopes to attendees. She said Hong Kong culture is familiar to Taiwan and the event serves as a bridge between the pair.
“We hope more people interested in Hong Kong culture will join and experience this cultural exchange between Taiwan and Hong Kong,” she added.
The department said the event included cultural talks on Hong Kong’s culinary traditions and an exhibition of works by the late photographer Chan Chik (陳跡). A war correspondent during World War II, Chan’s photos tell the stories of struggles east and north of China’s Guangdong Province.
This year’s performances focus on classic Hong Kong pop music, featuring Kaohsiung string quartet Yusemble and South Korean girl band April, per Liberty Times.
The fair will run from Thursday to Saturday, 1 to 8 p.m. at Kaohsiung Central Park.
