TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) gave his first Lunar New Year speech on Monday, urging social unity to advance the country.
In a video, Lai thanked citizens for their efforts over the past year, which enabled Taiwan to take on a more significant role internationally, per CNA. He especially thanked frontline workers like police officers, fighter fighters, and healthcare workers who allow everyone to enjoy a peaceful holiday.
Every individual is a hero of Taiwan, and the government will work to build the nation, he added.
Lai shared that he recently dined with senior citizens at the Hondao Senior Citizen’s Welfare Foundation. He encouraged everyone to care for the elderly and children.
Lai also reaffirmed this commitment to three major missions: ensuring national survival and development, protecting people’s safety, and improving the lives of Taiwan’s 23 million citizens.
Lai concluded his address by wishing everyone a happy and prosperous Lunar New Year. He called for political harmony and social cohesion, urging everyone to advance the country.
