TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Central Weather Administration issued a cold surge advisory on Sunday, warning of temperature drops nationwide.
Monday temperatures will hit 10 C or lower in central, northern, northeastern, and eastern Taiwan due to a cold wave moving south, CWA said.
Low temperatures in mountainous areas may lead to icy or frosty roads, CWA said, advising those planning mountain activities to take precautions. There is a chance of snow at elevations above 3,000 meters and 1,500–2,000 meters for northern and northeastern mountains.
Meteorologist Daniel Wu (吳德榮) said the cold wave will last from Monday to Thursday. Clear weather is expected during the day with colder temperatures in the early mornings and nights, Wu said.
Wu said lows in lowland areas may dip below 5 C on Tuesday and Thursday. By Thursday swathes of Taiwan will begin to warm up. He advised people to dress appropriately over the Lunar New Year holiday.
