TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s Representative to Turkey Huang Chih-yang (黃志揚) gifted two advanced drone command vehicles to Turkey in a ceremony at Istanbul’s Disaster Coordination Center on Wednesday.
The vehicles aim to enhance Istanbul’s ability to address high-risk disasters, particularly in earthquake-prone areas, CNA reported.
Huang highlighted Istanbul’s status as Turkey’s most densely populated high-risk earthquake zone. He emphasized the importance of proactive disaster preparedness and response capabilities.
Huang also pointed out Taiwan’s support following Turkey’s 2023 earthquake, which included humanitarian aid for affected communities and initiatives to bolster its disaster readiness.
The representative said Taiwan’s National Fire Agency dispatched five elite firefighters and rescue personnel to Turkey last year for a four-week specialized training program in drone-based disaster management. The trainees completed the program, advancing disaster response collaboration between Taiwan and Turkey.
