TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Legislative Speaker Han Kuo-yu (韓國瑜) on Wednesday lauded Taiwan's delegation visit to Washington, D.C. for President Donald Trump’s inauguration.
Han described the trip as a “major success” and a “breakthrough,” CNA reported. He said the delegation attended the inauguration alongside state governors, senior military officials, and foreign diplomats.
Han said that though there were initial concerns the group might not gain access to the inauguration, the delegation and Taiwan’s Representative to the US Alexander Ta-Ray Yui (俞大㵢) secured seats just 25 meters from Trump.
Han said the delegation later had in-depth and candid discussions with US officials, including Senators Ted Cruz and Tammy Duckworth, and think tanks on Taiwan-US relations and Taiwan security. He noted the strong bipartisan congressional support for Taiwan.
Despite domestic political infighting, the parties came together to advance Taiwan-US relations through this trip, the legislative speaker said.
The group consisted of DPP Legislators Wang Ting-yu (王定宇), Chen Kuan-ting (陳冠廷), and Kuo Yu-ching (郭昱晴); KMT Legislators Lee Yen-hsiu (李彥秀), Ke Ru-chun (葛如鈞), and Ko Chih-en (柯志恩); and TPP Legislator Chen Chau-tzu (陳昭姿).
