TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The College Entrance Examination Center announced Monday that a student who posted a photo of their English exam answer sheet online may face disqualification from the General Scholastic Ability Test (GSAT).
Center Director Chang Hsin-jen (張新仁) stated the incident occurred at Taoyuan High School on Sunday. The student reportedly took a photo of their answer sheet during the English language exam and uploaded it to social media, violating multiple examination rules, according to CNA.
Chang explained that the penalty for such a breach could result in the student’s disqualification from the exam, effectively nullifying their results. As the GSAT is a prerequisite for admission to most universities in Taiwan, this could severely impact the student’s academic future.
Chang also provided statistics for the English test, noting that of the 98,010 registered candidates, 4,183 were absent. Other exam violations included 36 students failing to bring proper identification, 11 not turning off their mobile phones, and four eating or drinking during the exam.
Students began the GSAT on Saturday, with the final group completing the test on Monday. The English test featured a variety of topics, including typhoons, alcohol consumption in Russia, and the concept of learning vicariously.
