TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport recommends passengers arrive at least three hours before their flight during the Lunar New Year travel rush.
Many Taiwanese are going abroad nearly a week in advance, with over 60,000 outbound passengers recorded at Taoyuan Airport on Jan. 19, per TVBS. According to the Forward-Looking Tourism Policy Research Office, airline ticket prices increased by an average of 50% compared to last year.
Taoyuan International Airport Corporation said peak outbound travel dates are Jan. 25 and 26, while peak inbound dates are Feb. 1 and 2.
To manage the large crowds from Jan. 24 to Feb. 3, the Airport MRT will start running earlier at 5 a.m. In addition, intercity buses will increase their frequency.
The Aviation Police Bureau and National Immigration Agency will open all baggage screening lines and automatic customs clearance systems at 5 a.m. to ease the crowds. The Taoyuan Airport recommends that passengers arrive three hours before their flight.
In addition, the airport also pointed out that although the parking lot in Terminal 2 offers online reservations for spaces, they are quickly booked during the Lunar New Year.
