TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Fu Jen Catholic University defeated National Taiwan Sport University 4-0 on Sunday to win the University Baseball League championship.
It is the second title for Fu Jen, who last won the honor 11 years ago. Speaking to the media after the game, Fu Jen Manager Chou Te-hsien (周德賢) said he hoped the team’s next championship would not take so long. He thanked all supporters of the team, including the university, per CNA.
Fu Jen was led by sophomore left fielder Lin Ting-chih (林廷之), who batted second in the lineup and achieved a 100% on-base rate over 5 at-bats, with 3 hits, 2 walks, and 1 RBI.
Lin walked in the first inning and had a timely single in the fourth to add a run. He would go on to earn Most Valuable Player for the tournament as well as Best Outfielder.

Chou said Lin worked hard at his hitting skills to achieve a good on-base percentage."If Lin can make good use of his speed, I think he will have a good chance to continue and make it into a baseball hall of fame in the future."
Fu Jen used four pitchers throughout the game. Lin Chun-yan (林俊諺) pitched 2.1 innings in relief without giving up any runs to earn the victory. Shi Chi-lin (石梓霖) also pitched 2 innings in relief, allowing only 1 hit and no runs.
The last time Fu Jen made it to the title game was the 2013-2014 academic year. That game ended in a tie due to rain as Fu Jen played the same opponent, National Taiwan Sport University.
