TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A statue of Chinese-American singer, Coco Lee (李玟) was unveiled in a New Taipei cemetery to commemorate what would have been her 50th birthday on Friday.
To honor Lee's memory following her death in 2023, her family commissioned the memorial statue in the celebrity section of Chin Pao San Cemetery, in New Taipei's Jinshan District, per Liberty Times.
The statue was inspired by her iconic performance of "A Love Before Time" from the film “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” at the Oscars in 2000. It has been named “Eternal Moonlight Lover.”
The memorial statue stands in the same area as tributes to other late celebrities, including actor Godfrey Gao (高以翔) and director Chi Po-lin (齊柏林). The resting place of another legendary diva, Teresa Teng (鄧麗君), is also located within the Chin Pao San grounds at Teresa Teng Memorial Park.

Renowned artist Wang Chih-wen (王志文) created Lee’s lifelike statue. Known for his work in Japan, South Korea, and Hong Kong, Wang spent a year meticulously crafting the work, which depicts Lee seated on a crescent moon.
The lifelike representation moved Lee's family to tears upon seeing the final work. Her elder sister Nancy collaborated closely with Wang throughout the process, spending a great deal of time selecting photos of Lee from her lifetime to serve as references for the artist.
Nancy, overwhelmed with emotion, remarked that the completed statue felt like seeing her sister again, bringing back a flood of fond family memories.
Friday's unveiling was also attended by notable figures such as lyricist and producer Yao Chien (姚謙), her former record company colleague Roger Lee (李岳奇), and well-known influencer Tinana Master (那那大師).
