TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Deputy Foreign Minister Wu Chih-chung (吳志中) received a four-member delegation of Japanese lawmakers from the Constitutional Democratic Party on Wednesday.
The two sides exchanged views on promoting parliamentary exchanges, regional developments, and issues of mutual concern, the foreign ministry said. Wu said bilateral ties have grown closer between Taiwan and Japan in recent years and hoped for continued bilateral collaboration in various fields.
Representative Futori Hideshi said that the CDP, Japan's largest opposition party, places great importance on its ties with Taiwan. Futori highlighted several areas in which Japan could learn from Taiwan such as disaster resilience, digital technology, and fostering a diverse society.
Another lawmaker from the Japan Innovation Party joined the delegation on Thursday.
The foreign ministry said Taiwan and Japan share universal values, which make them important partners. The delegation visit demonstrates cross-party support for Taiwan amongst Japan's opposition parties, the ministry said.
Taiwan looks forward to deepening cooperation with Japan’s ruling and opposition parties to safeguard peace, stability, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region, the foreign ministry added.
