TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Tamsui Historical Museum opened its first sustainability-themed exhibition “Roaming the Art Cosmos” on Tuesday.
The museum said in a press release that the exhibition showcases works from nine resident artists, per CNA. The collection highlights sustainable development by featuring works made from materials like fabric scraps and marine debris.
Through the artists' diverse perspectives, the show documents their year-long creative experiences in Tamsui. One artist, Chang Ya-ping (張雅萍), used leftover fabric and stitching to create cascading, waterfall-like layers of light and shadow.
Another artist, Liu Shih-tung (劉時棟), spent years collecting sand and driftwood from Shalun Beach on the northern tip of Tamsui. By combining painting and collage techniques, he created surreal cityscape memories that reflect urban life’s disregard for nature.
Museum Director Tsai Mei-chih (蔡美治) said the museum provides a studio space for its artist residency program to encourage creativity. Since 2013, 127 artists have joined the program, she said.
The exhibition will last from Jan. 14 to Feb. 12.
