TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Legislative Speaker Han Kuo-yu (韓國瑜) will lead a cross-party group of legislators to represent Taiwan at the inauguration of US President-elect Donald Trump, the presidential office confirmed on Wednesday.
The delegation of legislators from the KMT, DPP, and TPP will depart from the US on Saturday for a five-day trip, the office said in a statement. Trump’s inauguration is scheduled for Jan. 20 in Washington, D.C.
"The government sends special congratulations to President Trump on his inauguration,” the statement read. “The Taiwan-US relationship will grow stronger in the future based on existing good mutual trust and interaction."
The office said that the delegation would also meet with US political leaders, think tanks, scholars, and members of the overseas Taiwanese community while in the US.
The office named the KMT’s Ko Chih-en (柯志恩), Ko Ju-chun (葛如鈞), Lee Yen-hsiu (李彥秀), the DPP’s Wang Ting-yu (王定宇), Chen Kuan-ting (陳冠廷), Kuo Yu-ching (郭昱晴), and the TPP’s Chen Gau-tzu (陳昭姿) as members of the delegation. The statement said other legislators would join the group but did not provide further details.
