TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Burger King Taiwan announced higher prices for 16 different burgers beginning Tuesday, with the largest increase affecting Whoppers and Angus-series burgers, which will rise by NT$10 (US$0.30).
The higher prices follow a similar increase announced by KFC on Jan. 7. Burger King said higher prices were implemented as a result of current operating conditions, with the average increase for menu items being 5.6%, with many drinks and snacks not affected, per CNA.
Burger King said some sections of the menu, such as the menu “3 items for NT$100” and other special promotions will not be affected by the price hike.
Higher prices coincided with the launch of a new menu that includes new meal deals and special items such as bunless burgers and chicken fries. Also on offer for the first time is the option of truffle sauce on beef and chicken burgers.
More expensive menu items come following Taiwan Steel Group's acquisition of Burger King's domestic franchise rights in March last year. Burger King currently operates 95 restaurants in Taiwan, with ownership planning to expand to 130 restaurants in the short term.
