TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Central Weather Administration (CWA) reported on Monday that temperatures in Miaoli’s Sanwan Township dropped to 1 degree Celsius in the early morning.
Emei Township in Hsinchu recorded a low of 2.1 C, while meteorologist Daniel Wu (吳德榮) attributed the frigid conditions to radiative cooling. CNA reported that it was the coldest morning of the winter so far.
Between Monday morning and noon, temperatures in parts of Keelung, New Taipei, Hsinchu, Changhua, Nantou, Yunlin, Chiayi, and Tainan dipped below 6 C. Other regions also experienced lows under 10 C.
Wu said that sunny weather is expected nationwide on Monday and Tuesday as cold air gradually weakens. However, a new cold front will arrive on Wednesday, with Thursday and Friday forecasted to be the coldest days of the week.
From Wednesday, occasional rain is expected in northern and eastern regions, with precipitation gradually easing by Friday morning.
