TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The 2025 Kaohsiung Fubon Marathon was held on Sunday with over 10,000 runners participating.
The annual marathon, now in its 15th year, is sponsored by Fubon Life Insurance to promote healthy living and environmental awareness. The theme for this year was “Run to Love, Love to Run.”
This year’s event marked the highest prize money in its history, with over NT$2.9 million (US$87,500) awarded to the winners of different race divisions, reported CNA.
In addition to the full 42 km marathon, multiple events were organized for participants of different ages and abilities to create a positive and welcoming environment. The marathon also incorporated supportive measures for disabled participants, including a half-marathon for those in wheelchairs and companions for visually-impaired runners, per CNA.
Spectators also enjoyed the amusing site of 230 runners who joined the leisurely 3 km “Speedy Dino Race” dressed in dinosaur costumes. Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai (陳其邁) was also spotted celebrating with some dino runners, reported CNA.

Kaohsiung Sports Development Bureau Director Hou Tsun-yao (侯尊堯) said the Fubon Marathon is an important event for the city’s sports diplomacy, per CNA. It is a great opportunity for visitors to appreciate Kaohsiung’s beautiful scenery and cultural heritage, he said.
The fastest runners to complete the full marathon were Jeremia Nienga Nierifrom in the men’s group and Musau Jemimah Wayua in the women’s, both from Kenya. This year, the race saw 436 foreign athletes representing 43 different countries.
The first Taiwanese runner to finish in the men’s race was Lin Chiu-jie (林秋杰), who completed the course in two hours and 28 minutes. The women’s full marathon winner was a local Kaohsiung resident, Huang Hsin-yi (黃馨儀), who finished in two hours and 58 minutes.
