TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) thanked the US for its support mentioned in a White House statement and highlighted Taiwan’s role as a force for international stability and prosperity.
Responding to the US statement on Friday reaffirming its commitment to the Indo-Pacific, MOFA expressed gratitude to the Biden administration for approving 19 arms deals. It also voiced hope for continued cooperation with the incoming Trump administration. Taiwan remains committed to defending itself through arms procurement, military reform, and enhancing social resilience, the ministry stated.
MOFA emphasized its intention to deepen Taiwan-US security and trade cooperation to promote peace, stability, and prosperity in the Taiwan Strait and the broader region.
The White House statement underscored its commitment to strengthening Taiwan’s self-defense capabilities. Notable support includes the first-ever use of the Foreign Military Financing and Presidential Drawdown Authority for Taiwan, as well as International Military Education and Training programs. The US highlighted that its assistance is commensurate with the threats Taiwan faces.
MOFA also noted the White House’s recognition of Taiwan as a key partner in funding undersea cable projects for Pacific island nations. The ministry said this collaboration exemplifies Taiwan’s policy of “integrated diplomacy,” emphasizing shared values and economic development.
