TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Retired Army Lieutenant General Kao An-kuo (高安國) has been detained on suspicion of breaking the National Security Act.
Prosecutors suspect Kao has received funding from the Chinese Communist Party and tried to form an organization to further China's cause, per CNA. The Taiwan High Prosecutors' Office said the case is under investigation and declined to provide further details.
In 2022, Kao released a video titled, “A letter from the 'General An-kuo Unification Forum' to brothers in the Army, Navy, and Air Force,” featuring himself dressed in camouflage fatigues. In the video, Kao called for “eliminating the Taiwanese people's fear of military unification."

Kao's lawyer confirmed on Dec. 26 that he had been detained last year and was suspected of breaching the National Security Act. He was detained without visitation rights by the Taiwan High Prosecutors Office, per Tai Sounds.
Prosecutors suspect that Kao received funds from the CCP and attempted to contact active and retired military officers in Taiwan to develop an organization.
In addition, a female friend and several retired military officers have also been detained without visiting rights.
