TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Taiwan booked its second-highest annual exports total of NT$15.64 trillion (US$475.07 billion) for 2024 thanks to a 14th consecutive monthly surge in exports for December, the Ministry of Finance said Thursday.
In the final month of last year, Taiwan exported US$43.59 billion worth of goods, a rise of 9.2% from the same month in 2023. Imports in December amounted to US$37.51 billion, a surge of 30.4% from the final month of 2023, giving Taiwan a trade surplus of US$6.08 billion, per CNA.
Information, communication, and audio-video products led rising exports in December, recording an increase of 16% compared to December 2023, MOF said.
Exports for the full year were 9.9% higher than in 2023, while imports expanded 12.2% to reach US$394.47 billion. As a result, Taiwan’s trade surplus for 2024 amounted to US$80.61 billion.
