TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Tourism Administration has chosen Thai actor Alek Teeradetch to serve as Taiwan's tourism ambassador this year, CNA reported on Thursday.
With a population of 66 million, Thailand is a key source of tourists for Taiwan in the Southeast Asian market. To expand the Thai market, the administration hosted a Taiwan tourism promotion press conference in Bangkok on Wednesday.
Taiwan’s envoy in Thailand Doong Sy-chi (董思齊) attended the event alongside approximately 100 representatives from the media and tourism sectors of Taiwan and Thailand. The press conference also featured the premiere of a nine-minute short film titled "Taiwan(na) Go with Me?" starring Alek.
In the film, Alek portrays an influencer inspired by his visit to Taiwan. His journey showcases Taiwan’s travel attractions, including Kaohsiung’s Cijin, Tainan’s Anping Old Street, Yunlin’s Janfusun Fancyworld, Changhua’s Baguashan Great Buddha, and Taichung Jazz Festival.
The administration has also launched a travel brochure featuring the attractions Alek visited in the film. The brochure provides Thai visitors with useful travel information, including local cuisines and transportation routes.
Alek said the film shoot marked his third visit to Taiwan. He said Taiwan boasts many other attractions in addition to Taipei.
Alek, a popular actor from Thailand's Channel 3, has nearly 5 million Instagram followers.
The administration pledged to promote Taiwan tourism through outdoor billboards and travel expos to attract more visitors from Thailand.
