TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwanese groups will attend performing arts conferences in New York this month to heighten their international presence, the Ministry of Culture said on Wednesday.
The Association of Performing Arts Professionals (APAP) and the International Society for the Performing Arts (ISPA) hold two of the largest marketing platforms for performing arts in the United States, according to CNA. Their conferences serve as important events for Taiwanese artists to connect with international agents and festival curators, the ministry said in a press release.
With assistance from MOC's Taipei Cultural Center in New York, the National Taichung Theater and National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts will send Taiwan’s top artists to New York. The ministry noted that several groups plan to tour in North America and seek more opportunities to perform in front of international audiences.
The Unique Puppet Theater, Jin Kwei Lo Puppetry Company, Puppet & Its Double Theater, Resident Island Dance Theater, and Hung Dance will attend the APAP conference Jan. 10-14. Hung Dance's Tai chi-inspired dance piece "Peter Pan,” co-produced with National Taichung Theater, won a spot in the APAP's "UP NEXT! Artist Pitch Session.”
Under the ISPA Taiwan Fellowship Program, the ministry will send four artists to the ISPA conference Jan. 14-16. Participants include past and upcoming fellows: international booking agent Hsu Tzu-yin (許慈茵), Small Island Big Song founder BaoBao Chen (陳玟臻), Formosa Circus Art founder Lin Chih-wei (林智偉), and Against Again Troupe producer Lo Yin-ru (羅尹如).
