TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday condemned the forging of a Taiwanese brand by Chinese companies to avoid sanctions for Russian bombs as a disinformation attack.
The ministry said a recent report that a Taiwanese company named TRC (Taiwan Rung Cherng Suspenparts) had sold servomechanisms to Russia to enhance the performance of its glide bombs is “completely false news.” MOFA condemned the “actions of these malicious individuals in creating disinformation to attack Taiwan and calls on all sectors to distinguish between fact and fiction and not to be misled.”
After learning of the report on Monday, MOFA instructed its representative office in Poland to contact Ukraine to clarify the facts. Ukrainian authorities said the case likely involved China and Russia copying Taiwanese products and intentionally marking the TRC brand on the product components and packaging.
MOFA concluded this scheme was a “disinformation attack” against Taiwan.
Vadim Labas, the source of the report, said on Monday that following collaboration with Ukrainians living in Taiwan and Taiwanese, a double rebranding scheme by Chinese companies was uncovered and apologized to TRC for not taking it into account. To evade sanctions, Labas alleges that the actual Chinese manufacturer of the servos, KST Digital Technology Limited, designed an intricate rebranding scheme to label TRC as the maker, before selling them through Chinese and Russian proxy companies.
The ministry also contacted the International Trade Administration to clarify the information about the Taiwanese company. Taiwan Rung Cherng Suspenparts on Monday told CNA that the company does not manufacture such products and could take legal action against these false accusations to protect its reputation and interests.
MOFA stressed that since the outbreak of the Russo-Ukrainian War, “Taiwan has firmly supported Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression and provided humanitarian assistance needed for Ukraine's reconstruction.” It added that Taiwan has joined like-minded democratic countries in imposing sanctions on Russia.
The ministry called on all sectors to be vigilant against disinformation attacks on Taiwan and to avoid being misled.
