TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The world’s biggest technology show, Las Vegas CES, is set to run this week from Tuesday to Friday, attracting 4,000 manufacturers from 150 different countries, with AI applications taking center stage.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang (黃仁勳) will deliver the opening keynote speech, providing a glimpse into the future direction of the AI industry. Nvidia is also expected to launch a new generation of RTX 50 series graphics cards and offer insight into the latest humanoid robots, self-driving cars, and other technology, per CNA.
CES typically features new consumer electronic inventions such as 4K TVs, mobile phones, and most recently, software solutions. This year's exhibition takes a major step toward including generative AI applications in everyday appliances, bringing smart technology not only into the home but also to businesses and overall society.
According to Forbes magazine, highlights of CES 2025 worth noting include Agentic AI (multi-step problems), automotive innovation, computing power upgrades, and display technology evolution. Other fields that could benefit from innovation and AI applications include health technology, wearable devices, and extended reality (XR).
Some 180,000 buyers are expected to attend CES this year.
After participating in CES 2024, Taiwan’s Institute for Information Industry’s Market Intelligence & Consulting Institute (MIC) issued a report saying artificial intelligence personal computers (AI PCs) will soon surpass traditional PCs. It also noted that generative AI will contribute to electric vehicles, making driving applications more intuitive.
MIC also said digital health will take off due to AI with more wearable devices and the Internet of Things (IoT) making connections to home networks easier and more useful. Demand for AI is good news for Taiwan, which has become the center of the global AI supply chain with leading chip foundries like TSMC and manufacturers such as Foxconn.
Taiwan’s top OEMs, such as Wistron, Quanta, Inventec, and Compal will not officially participate with booths at CES due to limited business scope concerning consumer electronics. However, top corporate leadership is expected to attend CES to meet with customers.
For example, Inventec Chair Sam Yeh (葉力誠) and President Jack Tsai (蔡枝安) will make the trip to visit customers. Compal General Manager Anthony Peter Bonadero will also attend the exhibition to focus on smart vehicle electronics and AI solutions.
