TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Low temperatures from a cold air mass and incoming moisture brought snow to Hehuanshan from late Sunday night to early Monday morning, according to CNA.
Local staff reported it began snowing around 8 p.m. Sunday, with at least 0.5 cm accumulating at the Songsyue Lodge. The Highway Bureau announced Sunday night that only vehicles equipped with snow chains could travel along the Hehuanshan section of Provincial Highway 14A from Wuling to Songsyue Lodge. The section between Cuifeng and Songsyue Lodge was later closed.
On Monday morning, a queue of vehicles formed at the Cuifeng checkpoint at the 18-kilometer mark on Provincial Highway 14A with people hoping to see snow.
For safety reasons, the Highway Bureau announced Monday morning that vehicles must be equipped with snow chains to travel between the 29 km mark at Kunyang in Nantou County's Renai Township and the 36.6 km mark at Xiaofengkou in Hualien County's Xiulin Township on Provincial Highway 14A.

The Highway Bureau said the Cuifeng-to-Songsyue Lodge section was reopened at 7 a.m. Monday. Visitors are advised to drive cautiously and pay attention to traffic control and safety measures along the route.
