TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A pop-up store featuring the Japanese manga series Crayon Shin-Chan has opened at Songshan Cultural and Creative Park, showcasing Shinnosuke Nohara and characters from 31 films.
Located in Warehouse 5 and open until April 6, the store offers over 100 newly designed items for early purchase. These include daily necessities and small bags to plush toys.
Displays and merchandise from the Crayon Shin-chan Cinema Parade specialty store in Japan’s Ikebukuro are recreated. The venue also debuts the storyboard for the 2022 film “Crayon Shin-chan: Mononoke Ninja Chinpuden” and displays movie posters from all films released between 1993 and 2024.
Crayon Shin-chan, created by Japanese manga artist Yoshito Usui, is one of his most iconic works. It was first serialized in 1990, according to Way to Fun.
The Crayon Shin-chan anime first aired on Japan's TV Asahi in 1992. By November of that year, its viewership ratings surpassed 20%, and in July of the following year, it peaked at 28.2%, per MRMM.
Today, the anime has been broadcast in 45 countries and regions worldwide.
Following Usui's unexpected death in 2009, the original manga continued based on his unfinished manuscripts until volume 50 in 2010. With the efforts of Usui’s long-time assistants and Uy Studio, serialization resumed.
Collectible movie figure jars allow fans to fill them with characters from all Crayon Shin-chan films, including fan-favorite supporting characters. A 185 cm Shin-chan gachapon machine is also a highlight.
A light food area is also available. Visitors can enjoy Crayon Shin-chan-themed ramune soda and shaped egg pancakes.
