TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — MediaTek announced its latest AI chip Dimensity 8400 for smartphones on Dec. 23.
According to a press release, the system-on-a-chip has an eight-core Arm Cortex A725 processor operating up to 3.25 GHz, providing 41% higher multi-core performance compared to its predecessor. It is built on TSMC’s 4nm process, per CNA.
Equipped with an Arm Mali-G720 GPU, the chip offers 24% higher peak performance and 42% greater power efficiency than Dimensity 8300. It also supports mainstream large language models for AI support including translation and contextual replies.
The MediaTek Imagiq 1080 image signal processor allows cameras to capture more light and focus faster. The chip supports HDR recording across the entire zoom range. Other features include a 5G-A modem and support for WQHD+ screens.
Additionally, industry sources say the demand for smartphones will continue to rebound this year, growing by 3.6%, per UDN.
Meanwhile, MediaTek saw its stock drop 2.53% on Thursday, closing at NT$1,350 (US$41), per Liberty Times. Foreign investors sold 1,951 shares, investment trusts 431, and proprietary traders 371.
