TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The US House of Representatives is expected to pass a bill that provides tax relief to Taiwanese companies and workers.
The 119th US Congress opened on Friday. When the House of Representatives elects a speaker it is expected to vote on 12 bills, including the United States-Taiwan Expedited Double-Tax Relief Act, per CNA.
Although the Tax Relief for American Families and Workers Act of 2024 was passed in February, which included the US-Taiwan double tax relief bill, during the 118th Congress, it stalled in the Senate due to procedural issues. Under the principle of legislative discontinuity, the bill must be reintroduced in the new Congress.
According to a report from Congressional Quarterly, most of the 12 bills listed are related to issues important to the Republican Party, including immigration, abortion, and transgender participation in sports.
They include the bipartisan-supported bill addressing the US-Taiwan double taxation issue. This aligns with the Republican agenda of strengthening alliances and countering China.
