TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The delegation to attend Donald Trump’s presidential inauguration will be expanded, Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) said Thursday.
Two additional members from the Legislative Yuan USA Caucus will join the group after both the ruling and opposition parties requested an increase in the size of the delegation, CNA reported. It is scheduled to visit the US from Jan. 18-24. Lai Ching-te (賴清德) tapped Legislative Speaker Han Kuo-yu (韓國瑜) to lead the group.
Lin said the purpose of the visit is to demonstrate the Legislative Yuan’s bipartisan support for Taiwan-US relations and to congratulate Trump on his second term.
The group includes DPP lawmakers Wang Ting-yu (王定宇) and Chen Kuan-ting (陳冠廷); KMT lawmakers Lee Yen-hsiu (李彥秀) and Ke Ru-chun (葛如鈞); and TPP Legislator Chen Gau-tzu (陳昭姿).
Taiwan representative to the US Alexander Tah-ray Yui (俞大㵢) expressed optimism about deepening Taiwan-US ties under Donald Trump at a flag-raising ceremony on Wednesday.
Bilateral relations improved significantly during the Biden administration, Yui said. The foundation of bilateral ties is strong, and maintaining peace and security in the Taiwan Strait is a shared consensus, he said.
