TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A board game that plays out a Chinese invasion of Taiwan will go on sale next month.
A Taiwanese game company Mizo Games has created a new board game titled "2045", set against the backdrop of a cross-strait conflict. The game invites players to imagine Chinese invasion scenarios of Taiwan 20 years from now. It is scheduled to be released in January next year, per Reuters.
Players engage in operations during the 10 days leading up to a Chinese invasion of Taiwan. Participants use action cards and assume various roles to tackle war challenges.
The roles include government forces, undercover Chinese spies, pro-China politicians trying to weaken Taiwan’s defenses, and civilians taking up arms. Scores will be tabulated based on how each player meets their character's objectives, which is not necessarily a complete victory for their country.

Mizo Games launched a crowdfunding campaign in August, raising over NT$4 million within two and a half months to support the game's development.
In an interview with Reuters at his Taipei office, Mizo Games founder Chang Shao Lian said Taiwan and the Western Pacific region are far from stable. Chang said he designed the game to allow “players to feel they want to win and think about what they will do to win.”
As the game nears release, Taiwanese officials are actively preparing for scenarios of cross-strait conflict. Taiwan's presidential office held its first tabletop wargame simulation last week.
The game is also expected to launch in the US and Europe by the end of next year.
Participants in the trial run said the game provided insights into the potential consequences of a Chinese invasion of Taiwan. They also expressed hope that the game would help people better understand the impacts of war.
