TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Tainan City Government held a 488-table banquet on Sunday at the International Conference Center Tainan to conclude the “Tainan 400” event.
Mayor Huang Wei-che (黃偉哲) attended the banquet and said that Tainan residents not only love food but also know how to appreciate it. The event showcased the city's rich culinary culture, Huang said.
The city’s Tourism Bureau said the grand banquet's menu was designed by four renowned Taiwanese chefs, including Wang Yi-yung (汪義勇), Shih Tsung-jung (施宗榮), Hung Chun-nan (洪俊男) and Kuo Yu-hung (郭育宏). The event showcased signature dishes made with Tainan ingredients, symbolizing the city's unity, per CNA.
The bureau said the 10-course menu included Budai scallop and chicken, Lotus leaf rice cake, Tainan-style braised soup, Buddha jumps over the wall, Shaoxing sea prawns, and oily grouper.
The city government organized a joint performance at the banquet by Dutch opera singer Martin Hurkens and a musical ensemble from the National Tainan University of the Arts.
To mark its 400th anniversary, the Tainan City Government has launched the "Tainan 400" event series this year, featuring activities such as the Taiwan Lantern Festival, Creative Expo Taiwan, and Taiwan Design Expo.
