TAIWAN (Taiwan News) — Taiwan has agreed to fund renovations of a rehabilitation facility in Lviv, Ukraine to support the nation as it continues defending against Russia.
Taiwan's representative office in Poland signed an MOU with the Lviv City Government and Lviv Regional Clinical Hospital via video conference on Friday. The funds will support the reconstruction of the Unbroken Medical Campus in Lviv.
The seven-story facility will be named the "Taiwan Friendship Building" to symbolize the nation’s generosity and support, Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said. Once renovations are completed, it will house various medical departments, and offer physical therapy, psychological counseling, and prosthetics fitting. The building is expected to accommodate 13,000 patients.
During the signing ceremony, Deputy Minister Wu Chih-chung (吳志中) said Taiwan will continue collaborating with Lviv based on mutual trust and support. It will assist Ukraine in building a new future amid ongoing challenges.
Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi said the facility will benefit even more injured Ukrainians and thanked the Taiwanese government and its people.
The Unbroken Medical Campus is a national-level rehabilitation project supported by Ukraine's Ministry of Health and overseen by the Lviv City Government, MOFA said. To date, it has treated over 940,000 Ukrainians.
Sadovyi arrived in Taiwan last week for talks on inter-city cooperation and will depart Dec. 30. On Thursday, He held discussions with Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) about Ukraine's peaceful development, strengthening municipal exchanges, and building resilient cities.
