TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The first snow of this winter fell on Xueshan earlier this week.
A cold front brought the season's first snowfall to Xueshan, which is over 3,000 meters in elevation in Shei-Pa National Park. On Tuesday, Xueshan's main peak saw three to five centimeters of snow, per ETtoday.
The Shei-Pa National Park Headquarters on Thursday urged hikers planning to visit Xueshan to prepare essential snow gear, including crampons, ice axes, and helmets, and to stay warm to avoid hypothermia or altitude sickness. The park office said a recent series of cold fronts has continually affected Taiwan, leading to sleet in high-altitude areas above 3,000 meters in the park since Dec. 19.

Ice and rime have been seen on some trails, including Yuebaolan Mountain or Xueshan's Main Peak. Hikers captured photos of snow in the Xueshan region on Tuesday.
The park office announced that from Jan. 2 to Mar. 31 next year, snow management measures will be implemented. The office reminded visitors to check weather forecasts and mountain conditions before trips.
