TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A magnitude 5.2 earthquake occurred in east Taiwan at 4:08 p.m. on Thursday, according to the Central Weather Administration.
As of publication, no injuries or damage from the earthquake were reported. Taiwan uses an intensity scale of 1 to 7 to gauge the degree to which a quake is felt at a specific location.
The quake’s intensity registered a 4 in Hualien County and a 3 in Yilan County and Nantou County. A level 2 intensity was reported in Taichung, Changhua County, Yunlin County, Chiayi County, and Taitung County.
An intensity level 1 was measured in Taoyuan, Miaoli County, Hsinchu County, New Taipei, Hsinchu, Taipei, and Chiayi.
The CWA said its epicenter was 11.8 km east-southeast of Hualien County Hall with a 17.1 km focal depth.
