TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Taiwan will request the extradition of Hsu Chih-yu (許芷瑜), the former secretary believed to have handled corruption payments to former Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je (柯文哲).
The Taipei District Prosecutors Office on Thursday announced 11 indictments, including demanding Ko face a 28.5-year prison sentence for corruption and campaign funding irregularities. The prosecutors said Ko had handed bribes over to Hsu for safekeeping, per CNA.
She had been present at meetings between Ko and developer Sheen Ching-jing (沈慶京), who was accused of paying Ko NT$17.10 million (US$522,000) in return for expanding the floor area ratio of his Core Pacific City project. Hsu returned to Taiwan on Aug. 27, but she flew to Japan two days later, according to prosecutors.
The investigators contacted her through friends, but she did not respond. They issued an arrest warrant and requested the Ministry of Foreign Affairs revoke her passport.
The Ministry of Justice Investigation Bureau, the National Immigration Agency, and the Criminal Investigation Bureau have also been mobilized to track down Hsu.
