TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Ticket sales for over 300 extra high-speed trains for the 2025 Lunar New Year went on sale on Thursday.
On Tuesday, the Taiwan High Speed Rail Corporation announced it would add 368 extra trains (200 southbound and 168 northbound) during the Lunar New Year travel period. Over the 12 days, 2,246 train services will be available.
Tickets went on sale at midnight Thursday through the T Express mobile ticketing app, participating convenience stores, the THSR online booking system, ticket counters, and automated ticket machines.
The THSRC reminded passengers that demand for tickets and travel is high during Lunar New Year. Travelers planning to take reserved seating are advised to book tickets in advance and collect them early to ensure smooth boarding.
In addition, each train during this period will include two to eight unreserved seating carriages. Passengers planning to use unreserved seating should check the station's information system for real-time updates.
For added convenience, the THSRC recommends enabling Bluetooth on one's phone at the station and using the T Express app to purchase same-day unreserved seat tickets for mobile ticketing.
THSRC has scheduled 18 late-night trains during the Lunar New Year, all arriving at terminal stations after midnight (latest arrival at 1 a.m.), and two early morning trains (earliest departure at 5:30 a.m.). Passengers using these late-night or early-morning trains are advised to arrange transportation to and from the station in advance to ensure smooth travel plans.
The THSRC also announced that passengers holding periodic or multi-ride tickets will benefit from a nine-day extension of their ticket validity from Jan. 25 to Feb. 2. This extension applies to tickets with validity periods that overlap with the Lunar New Year holidays, starting from Feb. 3 or the original expiration date.
